Former Enugu State SSG, Prof. Ortuanya, Appointed UNN Vice-Chancellor



The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has announced the appointment of Professor Simon Ortuanya as its new Vice-Chancellor. The former Secretary to the Enugu State Government (SSG) brings a wealth of experience in academia and public administration to the prestigious role.  

Prof. Ortuanya, a respected scholar and administrator, previously served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at UNN before his tenure as SSG under the Enugu State government. His return to the university as its chief executive is expected to usher in a new era of academic excellence and institutional growth.  

The appointment follows a rigorous selection process by the UNN Governing Council. As Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ortuanya will oversee the university's academic, administrative, and financial operations, with a focus on strengthening research, infrastructure, and global partnerships.  

The academic community has welcomed the development, expressing optimism about his leadership. Students and staff anticipate continued progress under his administration, particularly in areas of innovation, staff welfare, and student support systems.

HUNDREDS OF WOMEN PROTEST GANG VIOLENCE IN KANO

Hundreds of women took to the streets of Kano on Saturday in a powerful protest against rising gang violence. The demonstrators, including mothers and wives, carried placards denouncing the brutal attacks by local gangs known as Yandaba or Daba Boys.   The protesters shared harrowing accounts of how these gangs operate openly, killing and maiming innocent residents.
