Cross River Implements N70,000 Minimum Wage — Head of Service Confirms
The Cross River State Head of Service, Dr. Innocent Eteng, has confirmed that Governor Bassey Otu’s administration has implemented the national minimum wage of N70,000 in line with an agreement reached with organised labour.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday in Calabar during the unveiling of activities for the ongoing Civil/Public Service Day celebration, Eteng said the governor approved and enforced the new wage exactly as outlined in the signed agreement.
“His Excellency has graciously approved the N70,000 minimum wage, which we have implemented in full,” Eteng said, dismissing claims that the policy had not been carried out. “Those saying otherwise are ignorant. As Head of Service, I speak authoritatively — this information is accurate and verifiable.”
He stressed that the new minimum wage applies across all levels in the state, urging workers to commend the governor for the move.
Planned activities for the Civil/Public Service Day celebration include a city walk by civil servants, a public lecture, award presentations to outstanding workers at the UJ Esuene Stadium, a keynote address by the Secretary to the State Government, and a lecture by Rev. Fr. Bob Etta.
